We just had to share this awesome new Artisan Wood Print we created for a client’s wall! It is a 4’x6′ custom built, hand carved wood piece printed with one of our favorite photographs: “Good Life”. This will be a spectacular piece on their wall and create a wonderfully relaxing vibe.

Cali love is too!
As a photographer, there are so many places I have always wanted to visit and photograph. This year I have created a “bucket list” of places I would like to go and Slot Canyon was one of them. It is near Page, AZ on the Navajo reservation and is within driving distance from my house so it came in high on my list. The desert southwest has a beauty all its own, unique from any other place. It has become super popular so it was crowded and tricky to get shots in this canyon without any other people but worth the effort. The lighting and shapes and color were awe inspiring. The best part of the trip was the night tour we took in the canyon led by a great Navajo guide.
Every year when the winter rains come I get excited about spring. It is my favorite time of year when the hillsides turn green and then burst with color. Mostly I notice the bright colored mustard flowers that brighten up my drive along the 101 freeway. This year they were especially abundant where there had been a fire in December. Such a bright reminder of the renewal that comes in spring. The hill had been charred to black and now was something of exquisite beauty.
I also love to spend many days in search of other wildflowers like poppies and lupines. It is a beautiful time of year!! Come by the gallery this month to see images from our new collection-“Bloom” Friday, May 6th is First Friday in Downtown Ventura, which means there will be lots of new exhibits at all the galleries and everyone will be staying open a little later and enjoying the festivities- be sure to get a map and check everything out:

Join us at Latitudes Fine Art Gallery for an opening reception of “Ocean Blues”
For the month of April, Latitudes will be featuring the ocean inspired exhibit called “Ocean Blue’s”. This special exhibit highlights the many moods of the ocean with its ever changing beauty. In conjunction with Earth Day on April 22, we will be promoting awareness and celebrating the power and importance of our oceans. Environmental photographers Steve Munch and Stephanie Hogue are dedicated to showcasing its beauty to inspire fascination and connection. With connection and awareness comes education and compassion. Though massive and powerful, our oceans are extremely delicate and impacted by our actions. Real change can happen when people are inspired.

“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” Jacques Cousteau
I have lived in California for almost 30 years and somehow never made my way out to Death Valley. So this year, with all the buzz about the Super Bloom and the Centennial Celebration for our beloved National Parks, I thought it was the perfect time to go. I only had one day which was definitely not enough…it is a very very big place! Being early March, the temperature was manageable but got a little toasty by mid day. We brought our golden doodle, Cali, but if I were to go back I would have to leave her at home, the trails and hikes are definitely not dog friendly. We saw quite a bit of the main sights, though I would love to come back and spend a few sunrises and sunsets…and the stars at night have got to be insane! We checked out Mesquite Dunes, Zabriske Point, Artists Drive, Badwater Basin, Devil’s Cornfield and lots more along the drive. It was beautiful to see the fields of golden flowers among all rugged terrain. We were in awe of all its majesty and beauty. We will definitely be back.
In one of the biggest El Ninos the California coast has seen in years, large waves have done severe damage to the Ventura Pier. With an early start on Friday, December 11, 2015 the waves started pounding and continued all day. Many pilings were torn off and washed up down the beach in the Pierpont area. We will have to wait and see how long it takes to get it repaired so we can all enjoy strolling on it again.
Have you seen this video of our baby whale encounter last winter? Breathtaking footage of a newborn baby gray whale off the coast of California was captured by Steve Munch. We are so excited that he will be spending the winter on the island of Kauai to photograph the humpbacks this year!!! Keep tuned in for those images and video coming soon!
A rare encounter with a newborn baby gray whale this past week left us in awe as we watched it learn to swim and frolic in the water with its mother. Judging from its size and swimming ability, we figure it was only hours old…days at most.
As wildlife and nature photographers, we spend many hours searching, observing and waiting for the right moment, lighting, composition, etc. This was a day when all the stars aligned and we were there, ready to capture it. The only thing to overcome at that point is the excitement and adrenaline knowing that we have something very special happening in front of us. That is when we are grateful for all the preparations we have made to be ready for the moment. It is fun for us to share the beauty we see that many cannot ever see first hand.
This new video gives you a peek at Latitudes Gallery in Ventura, California. Quick interviews of Stephanie Hogue and Steve Munch are blended with stills and video footage that they have created on the ocean and on land. Their work is permanently on display and for sale at their downtown Ventura location.
