Arts & Eats Event- “Explore Our Channel Islands” Collection

There is something about exploring the Channel Islands National Park that makes me feel like a kid on a wild adventure.

Islands that are so close to home yet so remote and removed from the grind of everyday life, Santa Cruz and Anacapa islands really are a place where you can let go and escape, even if for just a day.

Being on the islands inspires me to capture it’s unique beauty.  I love photographing the rugged golden cliffs and wildlife.  Recently I flew over four of the islands on a helicopter and got a birds eye view…their untouched beauty took my breath away. Truly majestic!

Join us at Latitudes for an exciting evening celebrating the wild and natural beauty of “Our Channel Islands”. Often referred to as “America’s Galapagos”, the Channel Islands National Park, located just off the Ventura coast. It encompasses 5 remarkable islands and their ocean environment, with unique animals, plants and archaeological resources found nowhere else on earth.

The art collection highlights new aerial photographs of the islands by Stephanie Hogue and classic favorites by Steve Munch.

In collaboration with Channel Islands Park Foundation, we welcome two island experts to share exciting info and stories.

-The President of the foundation, Marcella Klein-Williams, to share insights and information about the islands.

-Ken McAlpine, author of “Islands Apart: A Year on the Edge of Civilization,” will be available to discuss his journey through California’s Channel Islands National Park.

20% of all proceeds during the event will be donated to the Channel Islands Park Foundation and all purchases over $20 will receive an event-exclusive gift with purchase.

Ventura Rock Artist featured for Arts & Eats Event in Ventura

Join Latitudes Fine Art Gallery for “I Heart Ventura,”
a new photography exhibit by Stephanie Hogue celebrating our beautiful city!

With all the amazing winter skies, Stephanie has been busy creating breathtaking new artwork. One of her new pieces, “Nativity by the Sea” captures the work of local rock artist, Juan Manuel Cisneros. His gravity defying rock sculptures have been mesmerizing beach goers at the Ventura Promenade and Surfer’s Point for the past several years. His most recent work, a nativity scene, created this past winter by the pier in Ventura, touched the hearts of people far and wide.

Manuel will be here creating a sculpture exclusively for Latitudes during the Arts & Eats event. He will be available to talk about his work and sign any prints of his sculptures purchased that evening.  During the event 100% of Latitudes Gallery sales will be gifted to Manuel to foster this inspiring and creative individual who brings so much to our community.

First Friday Exhibit Opening- “Bloom”

Every year when the winter rains come I get excited about spring.  It is my favorite time of year when the hillsides turn green and then burst with color.  Mostly I notice the bright colored mustard flowers that brighten up my drive along the 101 freeway. This year they were especially abundant where there had been a fire in December. Such a bright reminder of the renewal that comes in spring. The hill had been charred to black and now was something of exquisite beauty.
I also love to spend many days in search of other wildflowers like poppies and lupines. It is a beautiful time of year!! Come by the gallery this month to see images from our new collection-“Bloom” Friday, May 6th is First Friday in Downtown Ventura, which means there will be lots of new exhibits at all the galleries and everyone will be staying open a little later and enjoying the festivities- be sure to get a map and check everything out:

Feeling Lucky

M_00201_Timmy Curren Green Room

Every day we are grateful. We feel lucky to live in such a beautiful community full of amazing people and breathtaking surroundings. We are certainly spoiled! We are reminded how incredible our city is, every time visitors come in and gasp at the images on our walls. We are lucky enough to be like a little “Best of Ventura” exhibit, and are honored when residents bring out of town guests to our gallery first, before taking them around town. We have the best Latitudes Family! They stop by to just say “Hi” and walk through regularly to soak in a bit of the mellow Latitudes energy. We love being a favorite hot spot and to top it off, we get to do what we love!

This month we will be focusing on gratitude and highlighting some of our favorite “Lucky Shots” and green color palette images. First Friday, March 4th, marks the start of our exhibit and it will continue to be on display all month long.

As an added bonus, we will be holding a “Favorite Lucky Shot” contest! Our collection of Lucky Latitudes images will be posted on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th. Simply share your favorite from the collection, say why it is your favorite, and tag us in the share, for a chance to win a 13”x19” matted print (a $65 value). It is that simple. Winner will be selected randomly on March 31st. Are you feeling lucky?
